Louisville, KY – A winter storm warning remains in effect for southern Indiana and central Kentucky until Monday at 7 p.m. Heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain are expected to significantly impact travel and utilities across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, areas along and north of the Interstate 64 corridor could see snow and sleet accumulations between 6 and 10 inches, with ice totals nearing 0.75 inches. The Louisville and Lexington metro areas are expected to bear the brunt of ice accumulation, raising concerns about widespread power outages and hazardous road conditions.

Snow will intensify throughout Sunday morning, transitioning to freezing rain and sleet in many areas by afternoon. The icy conditions will taper off overnight, but another round of snow is forecast to arrive Monday morning and persist throughout the day.

Travelers are urged to delay any plans until the storm subsides. If travel is unavoidable, authorities recommend carrying a winter storm kit that includes tire chains, blankets, flashlights, water, and a first aid kit. Power outages may last for extended periods, so residents should prepare by securing batteries, food, and water supplies.

By Tuesday, skies are expected to clear, with sunny conditions forecast. However, temperatures will remain cold, with highs only reaching the upper 20s to low 30s for most of the week.
