Paducah, KY – A powerful winter storm is set to impact western Kentucky on Wednesday, bringing heavy snow and hazardous road conditions. Residents should prepare for difficult travel and bitterly cold temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from noon Tuesday to 9 a.m. Wednesday. Snowfall between 4 and 7 inches is expected, with isolated higher amounts possible. Dangerous wind chills will follow, dropping to near or below zero early Thursday. Roads, bridges, and overpasses will become slick and hazardous.
Drivers should avoid travel if possible and carry an emergency kit with food, water, and blankets. The heaviest snow is forecast to fall Tuesday night into early Wednesday, making the Wednesday morning commute especially dangerous.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain cold Thursday, with highs near 20°F. By Friday, sunshine returns with a high of 29°F. A warming trend is expected this weekend as Arctic air moves out.
