Paducah, Kentucky – Strong winds will continue to whip across western Kentucky through Tuesday evening, but the bigger threat builds Wednesday into Thursday as storms roll into the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, a Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday with south winds reaching 20 mph and gusts nearing 25 mph. Rough lake conditions are especially hazardous for small boats, and drivers on I-24 and US-60 should brace for high-profile vehicle sway. The bigger system arrives Wednesday night, when scattered thunderstorms begin moving through.

Storm chances rise significantly Thursday afternoon, with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The NWS warns that brief localized flooding and lightning strikes are possible. While no widespread severe weather is expected, downpours could create poor visibility and slick roads just as many head out for work or errands.

Highs will remain in the upper 80s through Wednesday, before dipping into the low 80s for the weekend. South winds shift light Thursday night, but storm activity could linger into Friday morning, especially in low-lying or poorly drained areas.

Residents should secure outdoor furniture, check local alerts, and monitor weather apps closely this week.
