Louisville, KY – A tornado watch has been issued for Central Kentucky and parts of Southern Indiana, including Louisville and Bowling Green, effective until 2 a.m. EDT Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, isolated supercell storms developing over Middle Tennessee are expected to track northeastward this evening. These storms may bring several tornadoes, including a few potentially intense ones, along with widespread damaging wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph.

The tornado watch encompasses a corridor approximately 45 miles east and west of a line from 50 miles northeast of Louisville to 30 miles southwest of Bowling Green. The region is also at risk for large hail, with some hailstones potentially reaching 2 inches in diameter.

Residents are urged to remain alert overnight and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially during the early morning hours. Storm activity is forecast to increase in coverage by late evening, with the highest risk for severe impacts between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Officials recommend seeking shelter immediately if a warning is issued and staying away from windows. Charge devices, prepare flashlights, and review emergency plans in advance of the most dangerous storm period.
