Jackson, Ky. – Thunderstorms are expected to sweep across Eastern Kentucky on Monday, bringing a high risk of showers, lightning, and localized downpours from Jackson to Pikeville and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, there’s a 70–90% chance of thunderstorms beginning early Monday and continuing through the evening. Temperatures will range from morning lows in the upper 50s to daytime highs in the low 80s. Storm coverage is expected to be widespread, with the greatest impacts likely during the afternoon and early evening hours.
Cities along the Mountain Parkway, including Campton, Salyersville, and Hazard, may experience brief flooding in low-lying or poorly drained areas. Motorists are urged to slow down on wet roads and avoid driving through standing water. While severe weather is not guaranteed, isolated strong storms with gusty winds and heavy rain are possible.
The rest of the week brings some relief, though showers may linger into early Tuesday. Conditions dry out briefly midweek, with another round of afternoon storms possible Thursday. High temperatures will stay unseasonably warm, mostly in the mid- to upper 70s.
Storms could return later in the week. Stay alert for updated watches and warnings from the National Weather Service.
