Louisville, KY – A strong storm system is set to impact Louisville on Wednesday night, bringing thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds. Commuters along I-65 and surrounding highways should prepare for wet roads, reduced visibility, and possible localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers will begin early Wednesday, with heavier rainfall developing in the afternoon. By Wednesday night, thunderstorms are likely, with winds gusting up to 22 mph. Rainfall totals could exceed an inch in some areas, creating hazardous travel conditions along I-65, I-64, and I-265. Motorists are urged to drive with caution and allow extra travel time.

The storm system will linger into Thursday morning, with additional showers and possible thunderstorms before tapering off in the evening. Despite the rain, temperatures will remain mild, reaching a high of 66°F. By Friday, Louisville will see a break in the rain as mostly sunny skies return, accompanied by cooler temperatures in the upper 40s.

The dry spell won’t last long—another round of rain is expected to move in late Friday night into Saturday, bringing a high chance of showers throughout the day. Forecasters predict an 80% chance of precipitation, making for a wet start to the weekend.

Residents should stay updated on weather alerts and prepare for changing road conditions. Low-lying areas near the Ohio River and flood-prone zones may see standing water, increasing the risk of localized flooding. Those traveling overnight Wednesday into Thursday should remain aware of potential delays and detours.
