Jackson, Ky. – A strong cold front is set to move through Eastern Kentucky Monday, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms with up to an 80% chance of rain across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, KY, rain will begin moving in from the west during the morning, with isolated thunderstorms possible by late afternoon. Temperatures are expected to climb into the low 80s before the rain sets in. Rain chances decrease overnight but linger south of the Hal Rogers Parkway and Mountain Parkway into Tuesday and Wednesday, where stray showers remain possible.
Cities like Hazard, Prestonsburg, and Morehead may see locally heavy downpours on Monday, especially during the evening commute. Patchy fog could also develop overnight in valleys and low-lying areas, making Tuesday morning travel hazardous. Tuesday will bring partly sunny skies, though isolated rain could still impact the KY-80 corridor.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, avoid flooded roadways, and monitor alerts in case of lightning or heavy rainfall. Cooler temperatures are expected Monday night, with lows dipping into the upper 40s in the south.
Rain chances drop significantly by midweek, but stray showers may still develop near stalled boundaries through Wednesday.
