Jackson, KY – A cold front moving into Eastern Kentucky is expected to bring scattered snow showers and frigid temperatures on Tuesday. Residents should prepare for slick roads and dangerous wind chills that could drop below zero by Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, light snow showers may develop Tuesday afternoon, with minimal accumulation expected. Wind chills, however, are forecast to plummet, making outdoor exposure hazardous. Highs will reach only 23 to 34 degrees during the day, with lows falling between 9 and 15 degrees overnight.

Conditions are expected to worsen Wednesday morning as cold, high-pressure air settles over the region. Temperatures will remain below freezing, with daytime highs struggling to rise above 30 degrees. Roads could remain icy, particularly in shaded areas or on untreated surfaces. Drivers on major roadways such as the Mountain Parkway are urged to exercise caution and allow extra time for commutes.

The NWS also warns that wind chills on Wednesday could approach dangerous levels, especially in the early morning hours. Those venturing outdoors should wear multiple layers, cover exposed skin, and limit time outside.

Looking ahead, a gradual warming trend is forecast to begin Thursday, with highs reaching the low 40s by the weekend. Despite the improvement, overnight lows will remain near freezing through the week.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snow and wind chill periods. For additional updates, visit weather.gov or follow local forecasts.
