Jackson, Kentucky – Spring turns summer-fast in Jackson on Sunday, with highs near 80°F giving way to a multi-day stretch of showers and storms that could impact travel and safety across eastern Kentucky.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, partly sunny skies and calm winds Sunday will shift by late evening, with a 30% chance of showers developing after 2 a.m. Monday. The real weather alert begins Monday afternoon, as a 70% chance of rain and scattered thunderstorms builds, especially after 2 p.m. New rainfall may reach a quarter inch, with isolated heavier amounts possible during storms.

Storm risks increase Monday night, with rain likely and possible thunderstorms holding through at least Wednesday evening. By Tuesday, a 90% chance of showers and possible lightning will make morning commutes on KY-15 and KY-52 hazardous—especially for those traveling between Jackson, Campton, and Beattyville. Light flooding in low-lying areas can’t be ruled out.

Daytime highs will hover in the mid to upper 70s early in the week, climbing to 81°F by Wednesday. Nighttime temps will stay mild, with lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Prepare now by charging devices, reviewing power outage plans, and delaying non-essential travel during peak storm windows. Keep weather radios or alerts on hand and avoid camping or hiking in flood-prone regions.

Storm chances taper slightly by Thursday, but the National Weather Service warns additional alerts may follow.
