Louisville, Kentucky – Isolated thunderstorms may offer brief relief from sweltering heat across Kentucky this afternoon, with temperatures soaring into the low to mid-90s and heat index values approaching 100 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, pop-up storms are expected Sunday afternoon into the evening, primarily affecting central and western parts of the state. These showers will be short-lived but could lower temperatures locally and provide a break from the intense humidity.

Cities like Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, and Louisville will see highs between 90° and 95° Sunday, with overnight lows around 76°. Monday and Tuesday will continue the trend of steamy conditions, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and scattered thunderstorms likely during the afternoon and evening hours.

Drivers should be cautious on wet roads and prepare for sudden downpours. Those spending time outdoors are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during peak heat, and seek shelter during thunderstorms.

The pattern of hot, stormy afternoons is expected to hold through midweek. More heat advisories may be issued if humidity increases further.
