Louisville, Kentucky – Warm sunshine may dominate Kentucky skies Tuesday, but a hazy blanket of smoke from Canadian wildfires could limit visibility and raise air quality concerns across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, temperatures are expected to soar into the 85° to 90° range throughout central and western Kentucky on June 3, with wildfire smoke continuing to drift southward into the Ohio Valley. Skies will appear mostly sunny, though residents should expect a light haze, especially during the afternoon.

Cities including Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, and Lexington may experience reduced air quality due to the elevated smoke levels. Outdoor activities are still safe for most people, but those with respiratory conditions—such as asthma or COPD—should consider limiting time outside and using air purifiers indoors.

Transportation and power infrastructure are not expected to be impacted, but health officials encourage Kentuckians to monitor local air quality indexes and stay hydrated during peak heat hours from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Smoke may linger into Wednesday, with another update from the National Weather Service expected early tomorrow morning.
