Jackson, Ky. – Drivers across eastern Kentucky should prepare for dense valley fog through 9:30 a.m. Monday, especially near rivers, lakes, and creeks, with visibility dropping sharply along several key routes.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, fog began forming before sunrise across 30 counties, including Laurel, Whitley, Rowan, and Pike. The heaviest fog is being reported along waterways and low-lying areas, impacting major roads like US-27, KY-15, and I-75 in the Rockcastle and Pulaski regions.
Commuters in towns such as London, Hazard, Paintsville, and Mount Sterling are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow for extra travel time. First responders emphasize caution on rural highways where fog can obscure curves, intersections, and wildlife crossings.
Fog is expected to lift steadily after 9 a.m. as temperatures rise and sunlight breaks through the cloud layer. This morning’s fog event is typical for early June in the region but still poses a serious risk during peak drive times.
More weather updates are expected later today as clearer conditions return.
