Louisville, Ky. – Drivers across Kentucky and southern Indiana could face sudden drops in visibility early Thursday as patchy dense fog blankets much of the region during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, visibility may dip below half a mile in localized areas through about 10 a.m. EDT. Affected areas stretch from Madison, Indiana to Bowling Green, Kentucky, including metro Louisville, Lexington, and Elizabethtown.

Fog is expected to form along low-lying valleys and near rivers, particularly along major roadways such as I-65, I-64, and the Bluegrass Parkway. Commuters are urged to slow down, use low beam headlights, and leave extra distance between vehicles. Local authorities also recommend avoiding sudden stops and turns.

In Louisville, early morning drivers near the Ohio River and the Watterson Expressway could encounter thick fog. Lexington’s New Circle Road and Bowling Green’s bypass routes may also see reduced visibility through mid-morning.

This type of spring fog event isn’t unusual following warm, humid afternoons paired with overnight cooling. Still, visibility may drop quickly and without warning.

Conditions are expected to improve by mid-morning as sunlight breaks through and temperatures rise. Drivers should remain cautious until the fog fully lifts.
