Paducah, Kentucky – Strong winds could make travel difficult across western Kentucky by Friday afternoon as a breezy pattern develops ahead of a weekend storm system expected to bring thunderstorms and a sharp cooldown.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, wind gusts between 30 and 40 mph are expected Friday, creating breezy conditions across communities along the Ohio River including Paducah, Mayfield and Murray. While skies remain mostly dry Friday, gusty winds may push around loose outdoor items and make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles on Interstate 24 and U.S. Route 60.
Temperatures will gradually climb through the weekend. Highs reach the upper 60s Friday, then climb to around 70 degrees Saturday with partly cloudy skies across western Kentucky and southern Illinois.
The next weather system arrives Sunday as a strong cold front pushes thunderstorms into the region, with temperatures warming into the mid-70s before storms develop.
Behind that front, colder air quickly returns. Forecasters say rain could briefly mix with snow early Monday morning as temperatures fall into the lower 30s across the region.
Residents should secure outdoor objects ahead of Friday’s winds and monitor updates for possible storm alerts Sunday. Additional forecast updates are expected as the weekend system approaches. 🌬️⛈️❄️
