Bowling Green, Ky. – Hail and wind gusts topping 60 mph could slam parts of south-central Kentucky through 6 p.m. Friday, prompting a Severe Thunderstorm Watch across 16 counties, including Bowling Green, Glasgow, and Columbia.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, the watch—number 209—remains in effect until 6 p.m. EDT (5 p.m. CDT) and includes Allen, Barren, Logan, Simpson, Warren, Adair, and surrounding counties. Forecasters say storms developing this afternoon may produce large hail, damaging winds, and frequent lightning.

Drivers on I-65 near Bowling Green and Cave City should stay alert for sudden downpours and reduced visibility. Residents in Russellville, Edmonton, and Tompkinsville are also advised to secure outdoor items and prepare for possible power outages due to falling limbs or tree damage. Emergency officials urge people to avoid flooded roads and remain indoors during thunderstorm activity.

This system follows a stretch of relatively quiet spring weather, but it marks a return to more typical May storm patterns in the region. Friday night events and after-school activities may face delays or cancellations, especially in counties under the watch.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch 209 remains active until 6 p.m. EDT. Additional warnings may be issued if storms intensify. Stay tuned to local alerts for updates.
