Jackson, Kentucky – Scorching heat and rising humidity continue to grip eastern Kentucky this week, with heat indices pushing up to 105° by Wednesday afternoon. Afternoon outdoor activity could quickly become dangerous in Jackson and surrounding towns without proper precautions.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Tuesday, but the threat doesn’t end there. Temperatures on Wednesday (June 25) are expected to hit 95°F, with “feels-like” values soaring again. The advisory may be extended if high humidity persists.
From Wednesday through Saturday, Jackson and nearby cities including Paintsville, Hazard, and Morehead could see daily highs in the mid-90s. Isolated thunderstorms may develop each afternoon, especially along KY-15 and KY-30, bringing localized gusts and lightning.
Nighttime lows will struggle to cool off, hovering in the low 70s, which could limit overnight relief. This pattern could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses across eastern Kentucky.
More organized thunderstorms are possible Thursday through Sunday, with better coverage late in the week, especially in the afternoons.
