Paducah, KY – Residents across west Kentucky should prepare for a wet and stormy Veterans Day weekend, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected to impact travel and outdoor plans. The National Weather Service in Paducah forecasts scattered showers beginning Friday, followed by widespread thunderstorms through Saturday, potentially causing hazardous conditions along I-24 and other roadways. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and avoid flooded areas.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday will see a high of 69 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies offering a brief break before storms intensify by Saturday. Rain will spread northeast throughout the day, bringing peak rainfall Saturday afternoon and evening. Expected totals could reach 1.5 to 2 inches, especially in areas across west Kentucky. Those planning outdoor activities for Veterans Day weekend should consider alternative plans or prepare for wet conditions.

Showers are forecasted to persist overnight Saturday, with thunderstorms possible, before gradually tapering off from the west on Sunday. Sunday’s high will reach about 72 degrees, but isolated thunderstorms could linger in the morning hours, making early road travel potentially risky. By Sunday afternoon, conditions should improve with partly sunny skies, allowing for safer travel as the storm system moves eastward.

Looking into the week ahead, Paducah can expect sunny weather on Veterans Day Monday, with a high of 69 degrees, ideal for observing ceremonies and events. Tuesday will also bring sunny skies and mild temperatures in the low 70s, marking a return to calmer weather after the stormy weekend.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather alerts and be cautious of potential flash flooding in low-lying areas, especially along highways and rural roads prone to runoff.
