Louisville, KY – Spring storms are on the way, bringing heavy rain and possible thunderstorms to Louisville and much of central Kentucky this Sunday, May 4th. As temperatures remain in the low 60s, the National Weather Service warns that strong gusty winds and hazardous road conditions could make travel difficult in some areas. Be prepared for downpours, particularly between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., which may lead to minor flooding of low-lying areas and poor drainage spots.

According to the NWS, a 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms will continue through the afternoon, with rainfall amounts potentially exceeding an inch in some spots. The highest chances of thunderstorms are expected around midday, with wind gusts possibly reaching 40 mph. Drivers are advised to take extra caution on area roads, especially if traveling on routes prone to flooding, such as parts of I-65 and I-71, and stay alert for any flash flood warnings issued later today.

While today’s weather will bring some disruption, the next few days look calmer but still rainy. Expect slightly cooler temperatures on Monday, with highs only reaching the mid-50s, and a continued risk for showers. As we head into Tuesday, clear skies are anticipated, but a slight chance of rain returns by Wednesday.

Five-Day Forecast:

  • Sunday: Showers likely, high near 60°F. Chance of thunderstorms 80%.
  • Monday: Showers likely, thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. High of 60°F.
  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, high near 72°F.
  • Wednesday: A 30% chance of showers. High around 73°F.
