Jackson, KY – Eastern Kentucky remains under a Winter Storm Warning as heavy snowfall is expected to continue until 1 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Snowfall totals are forecasted to reach 3 to 6 inches across the region, with the heaviest accumulation likely south of Interstate 64. Counties such as Floyd, Pike, and Laurel could experience significant snowfall near the 6-inch mark, causing hazardous conditions on roads and sidewalks.
The winter storm, which began early Friday, has already led to treacherous travel conditions and disrupted evening commutes. Officials advise avoiding unnecessary travel until the storm subsides. Those who must drive should pack emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water, in their vehicles.
The snow is expected to taper off by early Saturday afternoon, but temperatures will remain below freezing, prolonging icy conditions on untreated surfaces. Local road crews are working continuously to clear main highways, but side streets and rural areas may remain challenging to navigate.
Emergency management officials have urged residents to stay indoors and monitor weather updates as conditions evolve. For real-time road conditions, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recommends visiting goky.ky.gov.
