Paducah, Kentucky – Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to roll through western Kentucky this afternoon, with large hail and damaging wind gusts posing the biggest threats between 12 and 7 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, storms may produce hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter and wind gusts approaching 60 mph. The main area of concern includes cities such as Paducah, Owensboro, and Hopkinsville. Rainfall totals through Friday morning could reach up to 1.5 inches in isolated spots, with widespread amounts ranging from 0.25 to 0.75 inches.

While tornado risk remains low, the combination of hail and strong wind could lead to downed trees, scattered power outages, and hazardous driving conditions. High-profile vehicles on I-24 and I-69 may be especially vulnerable during peak wind activity. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel this afternoon, and stay weather-aware via NOAA radio or mobile alerts.

This marks one of the season’s first widespread severe threats across the region. The National Weather Service will issue updates as conditions evolve. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be posted as storms develop.
