Louisville, Kentucky – A major winter storm is expected to bring dangerous travel and widespread disruption across much of Kentucky and southern Indiana beginning early Saturday and lasting into Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 1 a.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Monday. North of the Bluegrass and Western Kentucky Parkways, heavy snow is expected to dominate, with total accumulations between 10 and 14 inches possible. South of the parkways, snow and sleet totals of four to ten inches are forecast, along with ice accumulations up to one-half inch in some areas.

Cities including Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Elizabethtown, Frankfort, Richmond, Georgetown, Danville, Bardstown, and Campbellsville are expected to see rapidly deteriorating conditions Saturday morning. In southern Indiana, Jeffersonville, New Albany, Corydon, Paoli, Scottsburg, and Madison are also included in the warning. Major routes such as Interstate 64, Interstate 65, Interstate 71, and the Bluegrass Parkway are likely to become snow-covered and slick, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Officials warn that travel could become very difficult to impossible as snowfall intensifies Saturday and continues through Sunday. Power outages are possible in areas that see significant ice buildup.

Emergency managers urge residents to delay travel if possible and prepare now for prolonged winter conditions. Drivers who must travel should carry food, water, and emergency supplies and check road conditions through 511 services in Indiana and Kentucky.

The winter storm warning remains in effect through early Monday morning, and additional advisories could follow if snow or ice amounts increase across the Ohio Valley.
