Kentucky – A pale winter sun rises over the Ohio River as crisp air bites exposed skin and frost clings to parked cars. Pavement stays cold, and even quiet roads feel slick in spots. Winter is firmly in control across western Kentucky this morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, light snow is possible later today and into the evening, mainly east of the Mississippi River. Minor accumulation is expected, generally a dusting up to one-half inch, but cold ground temperatures could allow slick patches to form quickly.

Paducah starts the day near the teens, with highs climbing only into the upper 20s. Clouds thicken as the day wears on. Light snow may begin by evening, then taper, leaving behind damp roads that can refreeze after dark. Drivers along U.S. 60 and I-24 should watch bridges and shaded stretches closely.

Monday turns quieter and milder. Sunshine returns, and highs approach 40 degrees. That warmth may melt leftover snow, but it also sets up a classic winter hazard. Once temperatures fall again at night, flash freezing becomes possible on untreated surfaces.

Attention shifts to Tuesday afternoon. Another system brings a chance of precipitation, likely rain at first with highs near the low 40s. Cooler air follows midweek, keeping winter impacts in play through Wednesday. Additional snow chances linger later in the week, keeping travel plans uncertain through Friday.

On a larger scale, NOAA outlooks show colder air holding across the Midwest while warmer conditions push into the Southeast. That temperature contrast keeps the door open for wintry systems across the Ohio Valley in early February.

Slow down on wet or icy roads, dress in layers, and keep extra time in your commute.
