Jackson, KY – A Flood Watch remains in effect from late Friday night through Sunday evening for eastern Kentucky, where heavy rainfall could lead to widespread flooding, rising creeks, and possible mudslides.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, a strong storm system is expected to bring 3 to 4 inches of rain across the region, with some areas potentially exceeding 5 inches. Most of this rainfall is expected to occur within a 24-hour window on Saturday and Saturday night, increasing the risk of flash flooding and river flooding.
Counties included in the watch area range from Fleming, Montgomery, and Rowan in northeast Kentucky to Laurel, Pulaski, and Whitley in the south-central region, extending eastward to Pike, Floyd, and Harlan counties. Creeks and streams are expected to overflow, and rock and mudslides are possible in hilly terrain.
Safety Precautions:
• Stay updated on Flood Warnings and Flash Flood Warnings.
• Avoid travel through flood-prone areas, especially at night.
• Never drive through flooded roads—turn around, don’t drown.
• Prepare for potential evacuations in low-lying areas.
