Louisville, KY – Kentucky residents should prepare for a mix of snow, ice, and dangerously cold temperatures this week as a powerful Arctic front moves in. The National Weather Service has issued multiple advisories for flooding, winter weather, and strong winds, making road conditions hazardous.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Sunday evening, with up to an inch of snow expected. Monday, Washington’s Birthday, will bring partly sunny skies, but temperatures will struggle to reach 29°F. By Tuesday night, another round of snow showers could bring additional accumulation, followed by bitter cold. Wind chills could drop to near or below zero midweek, increasing the risk of frostbite for those outdoors for extended periods.
Drivers should avoid flooded roadways and expect slick conditions on highways, including Interstates 64 and 65, as freezing rain transitions into snow. Emergency officials urge residents to stay updated on weather alerts and check road conditions before traveling.
By Thursday, temperatures are expected to remain well below freezing, with overnight lows dipping into the single digits. Residents should take precautions to prevent frozen pipes and ensure pets are indoors.
