Jackson, KY – Eastern Kentucky residents should prepare for a week of frigid temperatures and snow chances, particularly along Highway 15. Lingering flurries Tuesday will give way to clearer skies before another round of snow hits Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, light flurries are expected early Wednesday before tapering off by midday. Highs on Wednesday will reach 28°F, but wind chills will make it feel significantly colder. Residents should prepare for lows near 3°F overnight, making for dangerously icy roads, particularly on bridges and untreated areas.

Thursday offers a brief reprieve with sunny skies and highs near 29°F, but a new system moves in Friday afternoon. The NWS forecasts a 40% chance of snow starting Friday evening, increasing to 80% by nightfall. Drivers on Highway 15 and surrounding routes should anticipate reduced visibility and potentially hazardous travel conditions.

Overnight lows Friday are expected to reach 26°F with more snow likely through Saturday morning. While accumulations are expected to remain light, the combination of icy roads and subzero wind chills creates a high risk for accidents.

Local authorities advise residents to monitor updates, stock up on supplies, and exercise caution when traveling this week.

Five-Day Forecast:

Wednesday: Flurries before noon, high of 28°F, low of 3°F.

Thursday: Sunny, high of 29°F, low of 5°F.

Friday: Snow after 2 p.m., high of 35°F, low of 26°F.

Saturday: Snow ending by 1 p.m., high of 28°F, low of 16°F.

Sunday: Sunny, high of 36°F, low of 20°F.
