Louisville, KY – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for southern Indiana and much of Kentucky through Monday evening as freezing rain, ice, and snow continue to create hazardous conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain and drizzle will persist overnight Sunday, with additional snowfall returning Monday. Expected snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, combined with up to two-tenths of an inch of ice, are likely to exacerbate power outages, downed trees, and impassable roads already impacting the region.
Areas affected include Jefferson County, Louisville, and surrounding communities in both Indiana and Kentucky. The hazardous conditions are anticipated to significantly disrupt Monday morning and evening commutes.
Officials warn residents to avoid unnecessary travel, citing the risk of nearly impossible road conditions. Those who must travel are advised to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water. For real-time road condition updates, Indiana residents can visit 511in.org, while Kentucky residents can refer to goky.ky.gov.
The Winter Storm Warning is set to expire at 7 p.m. EST (6 p.m. CST) on Monday. Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts and exercise caution.
