Southeast Kansas –Snow continues to fall across Southeast Kansas early Friday morning, with up to 2 inches expected in some areas. The National Weather Service has extended its Winter Weather Advisory until 9 a.m., warning of hazardous driving conditions and slippery surfaces.
According to the National Weather Service, light to moderate snowfall will persist through mid-morning. Areas such as Cowley, Neosho, and Montgomery Counties are likely to see accumulations nearing 2 inches. Cities including Chanute, Coffeyville, and Winfield are among the areas impacted.
Roads and sidewalks have become increasingly slippery, posing risks for drivers and pedestrians alike. Officials are urging residents to exercise caution during their morning commutes. Motorists should reduce speed and allow extra time for travel. Pedestrians are advised to take care on icy sidewalks, steps, and driveways to avoid falls.
Temperatures will remain near freezing, contributing to icy conditions. As a result, drivers are encouraged to call 511 for the latest road conditions and advisories for their specific areas.
Residents should expect improving conditions later in the day as snowfall diminishes and road crews address icy areas. However, the morning commute remains a concern.
