Dodge City, KS – Residents in southwest Kansas should prepare for a winter storm bringing snow and dangerously cold wind chills Monday. Travel could become hazardous, particularly along major routes such as U.S. Route 50 and K-96.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 3 a.m. Monday until 6 p.m. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches are expected, with wind chills plummeting to -15 to -20 degrees during the coldest hours. The advisory spans central, southwest, and west-central Kansas, including Dodge City, Garden City, and Liberal.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution as slick roads and icy bridges could cause dangerous travel conditions. Visibility may be reduced in snow showers, and gusts up to 28 mph could worsen conditions for high-profile vehicles. Travelers should allow extra time and consider postponing non-essential trips.

The extended forecast shows temperatures moderating slightly by Tuesday, with highs near 31°F and mostly sunny skies. By Wednesday, a warming trend will continue, reaching 41°F. However, nights will remain frigid, with lows hovering in the teens.

Officials encourage residents to bundle up, check local road conditions by dialing 511, and prepare for delays. Stay tuned to weather.gov for updates.
