Wichita, Kansas – Thunderstorms and cooler temperatures are expected to roll into Kansas starting Friday evening, bringing a soggy and unsettled weekend across much of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, showers and storms will begin developing Friday night, with the highest storm chances focused in southeast Kansas. Scattered storms will linger through Saturday, expanding across central and western areas by Saturday night and continuing into Sunday.

Cities including Wichita, Dodge City, and Pittsburg may see repeated rounds of lightning, heavy downpours, and brief gusty winds. Highs will dip into the upper 50s and low 60s Saturday, with Sunday temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to low 70s. Motorists should be prepared for slick roads and possible ponding in low-lying areas.

Although Monday is expected to bring drier and warmer conditions statewide, another wave of afternoon and evening storms could return Tuesday. Residents should keep phones charged, avoid flooded roads, and monitor updates from local emergency managers throughout the weekend.

Rain chances begin increasing Friday night, with scattered storms expected into Sunday before a brief dry window. More showers may develop Tuesday afternoon.
