Dodge City, KS – Heavy rain is expected to sweep across southwest Kansas beginning late Sunday night, with up to 2 inches of rainfall possible by Monday afternoon. The National Weather Service warns that widespread accumulation may cause localized flooding, particularly along the US-56 corridor and low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest rainfall is forecasted between midnight Sunday and noon Monday. A 50% to 80% chance exists for rainfall exceeding two inches in regions south and east of Dodge City, increasing the risk of minor flooding near roadways and neighborhoods. Motorists are urged to exercise caution during the Monday morning commute, as standing water may impact visibility and road conditions.

Monday’s forecast calls for heavy rain with breezy conditions, as north-northeast winds reach speeds of 16 to 22 mph. Temperatures will remain cool, with highs near 53°F, before clearing skies and drier weather return Monday night.

The outlook for the rest of the week features a gradual improvement. Tuesday will bring sunny skies and cooler highs around 49°F, followed by mid-50s and breezy conditions on Wednesday. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the 20s, with clear skies persisting through Friday.

Residents are advised to monitor local weather updates and prepare for potential flood impacts. Ensure storm drains remain clear and avoid driving through flooded areas. Keep an emergency kit ready in case of prolonged heavy rain.
