Dodge City, Kan. – Widespread, soaking rainfall is expected to blanket southwest and south-central Kansas Tuesday and Tuesday night, with Dodge City, Garden City, and Ashland facing a 90% chance of receiving more than an inch of rain.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, rain showers will begin increasing late Monday, but the heaviest precipitation is expected during two key windows: Tuesday morning and again after midnight Tuesday night. The rainfall will likely be steady and, at times, intense, especially south of a line from Johnson to Ulysses to Medicine Lodge.

Cities such as Liberal, Elkhart, and Medicine Lodge may see totals exceeding 1 inch, raising the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas and near creeks or poorly drained intersections. U.S. Route 160 and surrounding rural roads could become slick or impassable if downpours persist.

Residents are urged to avoid flooded roadways, charge mobile devices, and monitor sump pumps and drainage systems. Emergency managers recommend having sandbags ready in flood-prone areas.

Rainfall will taper off by early Wednesday, but the National Weather Service warns additional updates or advisories may be issued if rainfall rates exceed forecasted thresholds.
