Wichita, Kan. – Thunderstorms could roll into Wichita by Thursday afternoon, bringing a 30% chance of showers and possible gusty winds that may impact evening travel and outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, rain chances will increase after 1 p.m. Thursday, with isolated thunderstorms possible into Thursday night and early Friday. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph Monday, but storm-related gusts later in the week may create additional hazards.

While Monday through Wednesday will remain sunny and dry with highs climbing into the mid to upper 80s, the pattern shifts late Wednesday night into Thursday. Cities across Sedgwick, Butler, and Harvey counties should prepare for brief downpours, minor street flooding, and delays on roadways like I-135 and US-54.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid flooded intersections, and monitor local alerts. Although storm chances remain low at 30%, isolated cells could produce lightning or strong gusts during peak commute hours.

Storm activity is expected to taper off by Friday evening, with another sunny weekend ahead. More detailed advisories may be issued midweek if storm development intensifies.
