WICHITA, Kan. – A quiet, chilly start greets the Plains this morning, but another stretch of unseasonable warmth is on the way. Sunshine will dominate Thursday and Friday before a weekend front sweeps through Kansas, bringing a chance for scattered rain and cooler air by late Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, Thursday will stay mostly sunny with highs around 69°F and light south winds. Friday looks even warmer, topping out near 73°F under bright skies. The calm pattern begins to break down Saturday night as a weak cold front approaches from the northwest, increasing clouds and slightly lowering temperatures.
Rain chances return by Sunday, with showers possible mainly after midday across Sedgwick, Butler, and Harvey counties. While rainfall totals should stay light—less than a quarter inch—the front will knock highs down by nearly 10 degrees to the mid-60s. Travelers along I-35 and I-135 should anticipate brief periods of light rain and damp pavement during the late afternoon.
By Monday, the fall pattern resets with highs near 63°F before cooler air filters in again midweek, dropping daytime readings into the upper 50s. For now, models hint at another stronger system late next week that could bring a bigger temperature swing—and possibly an early “winter tease” before Thanksgiving travel ramps up across the region.
Meanwhile, faint communication disturbances may linger early today across parts of Kansas following the rare G4 solar storm that painted Northern Lights across much of the U.S. Tuesday night.
