Wichita, Kansas – Scattered thunderstorms could rattle south-central Kansas Thursday night into early Saturday, bringing brief downpours, lightning, and early morning disruptions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, light rain may begin late tonight and continue into Thursday morning. The strongest storm chances arrive Thursday night, especially across southern Kansas. Areas like Winfield, Arkansas City, and southern portions of the Flint Hills may see the heaviest rainfall.

Overnight lows will hover in the 50s and 60s through Thursday, with highs warming into the low 80s by Saturday. Friday morning could also bring isolated storms, with another round of rain possible late Friday into early Saturday. Commuters and early risers in Wichita, Hutchinson, and surrounding towns should remain weather-aware as storms could affect travel before 9 a.m.

Drivers are urged to slow down on slick roads and avoid flooded areas. Keep phones charged in case of power outages, and monitor alerts through NOAA Weather Radio or local emergency services.

Storm chances begin to taper by midday Saturday, but isolated activity may linger. Additional updates are expected as systems evolve through the week.
