Dodge City, Kansas – Rain showers are sweeping into southwest Kansas today, dropping temperatures into the 50s across much of the region and bringing a chilly, gray afternoon to cities like Dodge City, Garden City, and Ulysses.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, an area of rain will move in from the southwest, with the highest chances—up to 80%—centered around Elkhart and Boise City. Areas west of a Scott City to Ashland line are expected to see the most significant drop in temperatures, with highs topping out between 54°F and 62°F.

Dodge City is forecast to reach just 60°F, while Garden City could struggle to hit 63°F. This is well below seasonal averages for early May, when highs typically climb into the mid-70s. Light rain, paired with cloud cover and a cool breeze, may make the afternoon feel even colder, particularly for drivers and outdoor workers.

Residents across southwest Kansas should consider layering up and limiting outdoor exposure, especially with roads potentially slick in localized spots. If traveling west toward Colorado or Oklahoma, plan for rain-slicked highways and reduced visibility.

Showers are expected to taper off by evening, but cooler-than-normal temperatures could linger into Tuesday. More updates will follow if additional rain develops.
