Dodge City, Kan. – Scattered severe storms may develop across south-central Kansas by late Tuesday afternoon, bringing the potential for hail and gusty winds, especially near Dodge City, Liberal, and Hutchinson.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a slight risk zone covers parts of south-central Kansas, with the greatest chance for activity between 4 and 5 p.m. and continuing for several hours. The strongest storms could produce hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter and wind gusts reaching 60 mph.
Communities within the yellow-shaded area on the NWS map—including Pratt, Great Bend, and McPherson—could see isolated severe cells. However, the overall storm coverage is expected to remain limited, and rainfall totals will likely be minimal due to the scattered nature of the activity.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items and stay weather-aware into the evening. While the storms are expected to remain marginally severe, any isolated cell could pose a brief hazard to travel or outdoor activities.
This is a developing situation; additional advisories may be issued if conditions intensify. Storm threats are expected to diminish after sunset.
