Wichita, Kansas – Hot summer air returns to Kansas this weekend, but with it comes the risk of isolated thunderstorms, especially across the southeast and central parts of the state through Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a 30% chance of storms will affect southeast Kansas Friday and Friday night, with Friday night storms pushing into central counties. Highs will range from 83 to 90 degrees on Friday, with overnight lows dipping into the mid to upper 60s. Storm coverage remains low, and most areas are expected to stay dry.

Saturday brings slightly lower storm chances (20%) again focused on southeast Kansas. Storms may expand area-wide by Saturday night, but any activity is expected to remain scattered. Sunday clears out with no rain in the forecast and highs soaring from 88 to 94 degrees, potentially marking the hottest day of the month so far.

Travelers and outdoor event planners should monitor radar for pop-up cells and be prepared to seek shelter from lightning. Avoid parking under trees and secure outdoor items that could blow around in gusty winds.

Storm chances taper off by early Sunday, but warm, summerlike conditions are expected to persist into early next week.
