Wichita, KS – Residents across south-central Kansas are waking up to early morning storms, bringing rain, gusty winds, and a potential for pea-sized hail. The National Weather Service in Wichita warned that scattered showers and thunderstorms could impact the area through 10 a.m., with brief periods of heavy rain likely. Those commuting early should plan for wet conditions and remain cautious on the roads, as visibility may be reduced and gusty winds could pose challenges.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest storms are expected to move through Wichita, Emporia, and Chanute this morning, bringing gusts of up to 24 mph. As the system passes, the area should see clearing skies by late morning, giving way to sunnier conditions for the rest of the day.

Looking ahead, Kansas can expect a brief warming trend. Thursday will see clear skies and a high near 62°F, with winds calming later in the day. By Friday, temperatures are forecasted to reach 64°F under sunny skies, while Friday night will bring partly cloudy skies and lows around 47°F.

The weekend promises mild weather, with Saturday featuring mostly sunny skies and a high near 65°F. However, cloud cover may return by Saturday night, and Sunday brings a 40% chance of showers in the afternoon, with highs near 62°F.
