Wichita, Kansas – Strong thunderstorms could hammer parts of central and south-central Kansas tonight, bringing 60 mph wind gusts, heavy rain, and quarter-size hail through early Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a storm complex is expected to move into the region after 6 p.m., with the greatest risk for severe weather focused west of I-135 and I-35, including cities like Wichita, Hutchinson, and Harper. The threat is expected to last until 3 a.m., and areas under a Level 2 (Slight) risk may experience damaging winds, isolated flooding, and hail.
Residents in Pratt, Winfield, and Russell are urged to stay weather-aware, secure outdoor items, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Power outages and hazardous travel conditions are possible overnight.
The severe weather threat will taper off by sunrise, giving way to calmer conditions. Thursday and Friday look dry and mild, with highs climbing into the 70s and 80s. Isolated storms could return Saturday as temperatures rise into the upper 80s.
