Wichita, Kansas – A volatile spring pattern will bring multiple rounds of thunderstorms to south-central and southeast Kansas from Saturday through Tuesday, with a heightened risk for severe weather Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the first wave arrives Saturday with a 50% chance of showers and storms during the day and evening. Wind gusts could reach up to 20 mph. While Saturday’s storms aren’t expected to be severe, they will affect outdoor events, travel, and road conditions across the Wichita metro and along I-135.

Another round Sunday night could impact the Flint Hills region, with a slight risk of isolated severe thunderstorms west of the Kansas Turnpike. The most significant concern develops late Monday afternoon and into Monday night. Storms during that window may turn severe, especially near and southeast of the Turnpike, bringing hail, strong winds, and heavy rainfall.

5-Day Forecast for Wichita:

  • Saturday: High near 64°F, 50% chance of storms.
  • Sunday: High near 76°F, breezy with 50% chance of evening thunderstorms.
  • Monday: High near 83°F, 40% chance of storms after 1 p.m., stronger storms possible at night.
  • Tuesday: High near 71°F, 20% chance of storms during the day, mostly clear at night.
