Wichita, KS – Spring storms will roll into southeast Kansas early Thursday, with Wichita among the areas likely to see strong winds, heavy rain, and possible hail before sunrise.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the most intense activity is expected between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. Thursday. Wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail are possible. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out. Drivers on US-54 and surrounding highways should expect poor visibility and ponding in low-lying areas.
Although spotter activation is not currently anticipated, residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and monitor alerts overnight. A low risk of isolated thunderstorms continues into Saturday, especially for far southeast Kansas. While the tornado threat remains limited, fast-changing spring conditions make it important to stay informed.
Rain may mix with snow late Saturday into Sunday over central and south-central Kansas. Wichita’s weekend may bring breezy conditions with a Saturday high near 49°F followed by a chilly low of 32°F Saturday night.
