Dodge City, Kan. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are set to return to southwest Kansas late Monday into Tuesday night, bringing the risk of flash flooding, especially near the Oklahoma border.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, multiple rounds of rainfall are likely beginning early Tuesday, with the highest chances for heavier downpours late in the day. Areas such as Liberal, Elkhart, and Meade fall within a slight risk zone for excessive rainfall, with 60–70% odds of receiving an inch or more by Wednesday morning.
Garden City, Dodge City, and Ulysses are also expected to see widespread rain and cooler temperatures, with highs dropping into the 50s and low 60s Tuesday. Rain chances across the region rise to 80% as low pressure moves in from the west, tapping into Gulf moisture.
Localized flooding could impact low-lying roads and fields, particularly in Seward and Morton counties. Residents are advised to avoid driving through water-covered roads and to secure property prone to runoff. Power outages and school delays are not expected at this time, but conditions may change rapidly.
Warnings remain in effect through early Wednesday, with additional updates possible as new models arrive late Monday.
