Hastings, NE – Dangerous cold temperatures and significant snowfall have created hazardous travel conditions across south-central Nebraska, with wind chills expected to dip as low as -15°F through Tuesday. Residents are urged to take precautions when venturing outdoors or traveling, as icy roads and subzero conditions present safety concerns.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings, recent snowfall totals reached 16 inches near Tipton, KS, and up to 12 inches in Osborne, KS. Hastings recorded lighter accumulations of 4-6 inches, but the wind chill factor will make temperatures feel significantly colder. Tuesday’s high is forecasted at 17°F with a wind chill range from -1 to -6°F.

Roadways, including U.S. Route 6, remain slick in many areas. Motorists are advised to slow down, increase following distances, and carry winter safety kits. NWS suggests staying indoors as much as possible, dressing in layers, and keeping exposed skin covered if you must go outside.

Looking ahead, temperatures will slightly warm by Thursday, reaching a high near 35°F, with mostly cloudy skies. Friday brings sunshine and a high of 30°F, with no additional snowfall expected this week.
