Goodland, KS – A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for parts of Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska, with critical fire weather conditions expected on Thursday. Strong winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures could lead to rapidly spreading fires.

According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, the watch will be in effect from Thursday morning through Thursday evening. Winds from the south will range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. Humidity levels are expected to drop to around 12 percent, creating ideal conditions for wildfires.

The affected areas include Yuma, Kit Carson, and Cheyenne counties in Colorado; Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Norton, Sherman, Thomas, Sheridan, Graham, Wallace, Logan, Gove, Greeley, and Wichita counties in Kansas; and Dundy, Hitchcock, and Red Willow counties in Nebraska.

Officials warn that any fires that develop could spread rapidly and be difficult to control. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and take precautions to prevent accidental fires.

The National Weather Service advises staying updated on forecasts and preparing for possible Red Flag Warnings. For more information, visit weather.gov/goodland.
