Dodge City, KS – A high wind warning remains in effect for much of Kansas through 7 p.m. CDT Wednesday, with damaging winds expected to impact travel, power lines, and infrastructure across the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Dodge City and Wichita, northwest winds between 40 to 50 mph with gusts reaching up to 75 mph will continue throughout the day. Affected areas include central, south-central, southwest, and west-central Kansas, spanning cities such as Dodge City, Garden City, Wichita, and Salina.

The intense winds may bring down trees and power lines, increasing the likelihood of widespread power outages. The combination of wet snow and extreme gusts could also contribute to further tree and infrastructure damage. Reduced visibility from blowing dust and snow is expected to make travel hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Residents are advised to remain in the lower levels of their homes, avoid windows, and stay indoors whenever possible. Those who must travel should exercise extreme caution and check road conditions before departing.

Emergency officials urge Kansans to secure outdoor objects, prepare for potential outages, and stay updated with the latest alerts. The high winds are expected to gradually subside by Wednesday evening.
