Wichita, Kansas – More storms and flood risks are ahead for Kansas after a volatile start to the week. Residents in Wichita, Salina, and El Dorado should brace for more rain and the potential for flooding through Wednesday afternoon, with a Flood Watch remaining in effect.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, storms tonight could bring wind gusts near 80 mph, golf ball-size hail, and isolated tornadoes. A Flood Watch continues for much of central, south-central, and southeast Kansas until Wednesday afternoon. Additional heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding, especially along U.S. 400, I-135, and low-lying roads near rivers and creeks. Spotter activation may be needed tonight.

Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads and be prepared for rapid changes in visibility and conditions. Those in flood-prone areas should have an emergency plan and keep phones charged in case of power outages.

More storms are possible on Wednesday, mainly in southeast Kansas, before heat becomes the dominant concern. By Friday, heat indices may climb to near 100°F across the region, raising the risk of heat-related illness during Juneteenth celebrations.

While skies begin to clear by Thursday evening, weekend temperatures will remain high with dry conditions returning.
