Dodge City, KS – A sharp drop in temperatures is expected across Kansas this week, with Dodge City preparing for a significant cooldown starting Wednesday night. Drivers and residents should be ready for changes, including the possibility of slick roads as colder air settles in.

According to the National Weather Service, Dodge City will enjoy sunny skies and a high of 56 degrees on Tuesday, but a cold front arriving late Wednesday will drop temperatures to a high of just 45 degrees on Thursday. Lows will plummet into the 20s, signaling the return of winter-like conditions.

The transition may make for hazardous road conditions, especially overnight when temperatures drop below freezing. Motorists are encouraged to use caution during early morning hours and check for black ice along major highways, including U.S. 50 and U.S. 56.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for sunny skies with a high of 56, but winds will shift from the south to the north as the front moves through. Thursday will remain clear but cooler, followed by another warm-up on Friday with highs near 56. This weekend, Dodge City can expect mostly sunny conditions with temperatures hovering in the 50s, making for a relatively mild December.

Residents should layer up later this week, especially for outdoor activities on Thursday and Friday nights when lows dip near freezing. Travelers heading west or north should monitor forecasts closely as colder air may result in delays.
