Kansas City, Missouri – A soggy weekend is in store for Missouri as strong thunderstorms could roll through Kansas City, Sedalia, and surrounding areas beginning Saturday afternoon and continuing into Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather is in place for much of the region on both Saturday, June 7, and Sunday, June 8. Cities including Leavenworth, Olathe, and Moberly could see scattered storms with wind gusts and heavy downpours. Precipitation chances climb to 55–65% across the state by Saturday evening, with peak activity likely between 6 p.m. and midnight.

Maryville, Lee’s Summit, and Chillicothe could see wet conditions persist into early Sunday, though storm intensity is expected to remain isolated. Sedalia and Jefferson City face a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms Sunday, with the potential for brief damaging winds or hail.

Drivers should monitor local radar and avoid travel during high-risk windows. Secure outdoor items and ensure weather alerts are active on mobile devices. No widespread flooding is forecast, but isolated pockets of heavy rain could cause minor street flooding.

Storm chances taper off Monday morning, with drier conditions expected to return by early next week.
