Kansas City, Missouri – Rain will soak parts of western and central Missouri tonight into Thursday, with isolated thunderstorms possible by mid-afternoon and the heaviest rainfall south of I-70.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, rain is expected to begin around 6 p.m. Wednesday and continue steadily overnight, peaking during the early morning hours Thursday. While no severe weather is forecast, totals between 0.25 and 0.50 inches are likely in cities like Sedalia, Olathe, and Lee’s Summit.

Commuters in Kansas City, Leavenworth, and St. Joseph should anticipate wet roads during the Thursday morning rush. Thunderstorm activity may develop by midday, especially in areas south of the metro, before tapering off into the evening. The rainfall should clear by late Thursday, giving way to calmer, warmer weather into the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to allow extra time for travel, avoid water-covered roadways, and check local alerts before heading out. Temperatures will rise into the 80s by Saturday, marking a return to more summer-like conditions.

More updates are expected early Thursday as rain continues across the region.
