Kansas City, MO – A bitter cold wave is gripping Missouri, with wind chills plunging to -10°F today and Thursday. Residents should bundle up and prepare for icy conditions as a chance of light snow looms later this week.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), sub-zero wind chill values will persist through Thursday morning, creating dangerous conditions for those outdoors. A slight snow system could dust Kansas City and areas along I-70 late Thursday night into Friday. Snowfall accumulations may range from a light dusting to about one inch.

Highs on Thursday will struggle to climb above 32°F, a sharp contrast to seasonal averages. Overnight lows could dip as low as 10°F, with even colder “feels-like” temperatures. The frigid weather is expected to ease slightly by Saturday, with highs returning to the low 30s.

Drivers along major highways, including I-70 and I-35, should exercise caution as light snow combined with freezing wind chills could create hazardous road conditions Thursday night into Friday morning.

Looking ahead, the five-day forecast shows a mix of partly sunny skies and cold temperatures over the weekend. Highs will gradually rise to the low 30s by Saturday, with minimal precipitation expected after Friday.

Residents are advised to dress warmly, limit time outdoors, and monitor updates from the NWS for changes to snow predictions. Stay off icy roads if possible, and check on elderly neighbors or those without access to adequate heating.
